Christmas Cards from the Homeless: You can now buy a Christmas card and help the homeless at the same time
Dec 1, 2011 by Angelica Alvarez of WCTV (angelica.alvarez@wctv.tv)

December 1, 2011
Residents at The Shelter on Tennessee St. in Tallahassee helped kick off the third annual We The People Christmas Card Fundraiser.

We The People is a non-profit group that focuses on humanitarian work all over the country. In Tallahassee they do it by spreading Christmas cheer.

Participants who use the shelter are asked to draw a Christmas picture. That picture is then printed on a card, and sold in packages of ten.

Richard K. Olive with We The People, says, "I think the most exciting thing is to see the participants who actually enjoy the shelter are the ones actually raising the funds."

The past two Christmas card fundraisers raised more than $13,000. All proceeds go directly back to the shelter, to benefit those who actually made the cards.

To find out how to buy a pack of these cards or to learn more about it, go to www.supportyourlocalshelter.org or you can call 1-866-597-9870.

We the People, Inc. of the United States Provides Effective Relief Method for Haiti Victims

Taken by relief volunteer in St. Marc, destination of We the People cargo shipment. Water is so scarce, wounds go unwashed

Tallahassee, FL, January 22, 2010 -- As organizations, churches, and people are researching the best methods to help the Haitian people by the quickest and most effective means, a Tallahassee nonprofit, We the People, Inc. of the United States (WTP) has supplied their community with exactly that. Friday, January 15th, showed the first signs of food and international aid making their way through the devastation and rubble to the capital city of Haiti. Those rescued will join the estimated 250,000 injured and 1.5 million homeless in rampant search for water, food, and medical care. Where will all these injured go? Hospitals in Haiti lie in ruins and the infrastructure to transport patients are tremendously hazardous for relief workers.

Saint Nicholas is one of the few surviving hospitals capable of providing adequate treatment for the injured. Located in the nearby town of St. Marc, this 110-bed hospital is expected to receive a vast amount of the injured. They are in dire need of considerable medical assistance, water, and substantial medical supplies. WTP has come up with a notable and effective method of assisting in this effort...read full story.

We the People, Inc. of the United States donates 21.8 million dollars in relief aid to Lusaka, Zambia

Children waiting in line to be fed

Dec 07, 2009 – Tallahassee, FL – Somewhere on a plot of land in a village miles from Lusaka, Zambia is an orphan who will wake up today with better odds of survival than ever before. They have a school to go to, educated teachers to teach them, food to eat, and most importantly for this community in particular – preferential access to a medical facility that helps prevent and effectively treat HIV patients. The UN's AIDS Report in 2008 stated that Zambia has one of the world's most devastating AIDS and HIV epidemics in the world; more than one in every seven adults in Lusaka is living with AIDS and life expectancy in 2008 dropped to 42 years. At the Sekelela Orphanage in Lusaka live 600 children who wake up every day breathing this statistic.

We the People, Inc. of the United States [WTP], a charitable nonprofit corporation organized in 1987, is receiving their fair share of notoriety for their over 60 million dollars in international aid donated since the beginning of this year. Last month they shipped a second container to Sekelela Orphanage in Lusaka, Zambia; 26,650 pounds of relief materials valued at 21.8 million dollars. Items included in this shipment: 14,000 needles, millions of dollars in pharmaceuticals and antibiotics, a 4-bottom plow, hay wagon, shoes, clothes, and exam tables.

When Bill Henry of America's Heart, a Jacksonville-based nonprofit corporate sole, was able to communicate the goal of his international relief organization to Bill Reeves (Vice President of WTP) and Richard K. Olive (Director of Development of WTP), the giving began. America's Heart operates out of a 32,000 sq ft warehouse that exports domestically donated relief supplies to hard-to-transport locations, such as Afghanistan, the location of WTP's first shipment. WTP funds the relief projects; America's Heart ships it...read full story.
